World Alzheimer\u2019s Day, September 21st of each year, is a day on which Alzheimer\u2019s organizations around the world concentrate their efforts on raising awareness about Alzheimer and dementia. This year, it marks the 6th global World Alzheimer’s Month, and utilizes the theme of ‘Remember me’ to stress the importance of early detection and diagnosis of dementia. Alzheimer\u2019s disease is the most common form of dementia, a group of disorders that impairs mental functioning.<\/p>\n
General Manager Sherif Sabry stated, \u201cWe are proud to support World Alzheimer\u2019s Day in order to raise public awareness and to increase understanding and acceptance for individuals coping with the disease and challenge the stigma that surrounds dementia. This simple gesture recognizes the need for awareness in a world that has not always done so.\u201d<\/p>\n
Digital screens outside The Torch Doha featured the hotel\u2019s participation at Hamad Medical Corporation\u2019s campaign and shined a light on Alzheimer in order to raise awareness publicly, to find out more about it and contribute in reducing the stigma and improving the lives of people with dementia and their carers inside the community.<\/p>\n
Dr. Hanadi Al Hamad, Chairperson of Geriatrics and Long Term Care Department at HMC, said the focus of World Alzheimer\u2019s Day 2017 is \u201cRemember Me\u201d, highlighting the importance of early detection and diagnosis of dementia. \u201cIn our Memory Clinics at Rumailah Hospital we regularly see patients who get referred for evaluation because of memory problems, but a real concern is that often we see families bringing their loved ones at a later stage, once symptoms have progressed significantly. However, the earlier the diagnosis of dementia is made the better, as it enables people with dementia and their families to learn how to cope with the progression of the condition and find the professional help that is available in Qatar\u201c.<\/p>\n
